Montpelier High School's The Conversation hosted a school wide Valentines dance.

The Valentine’s Dance lit up the whole school. Pink lights brightened up the room and balloons were scattered all around, transforming the cafeteria.

The dance was organized and executed by The Conversation, a student run club aimed at building a consent based school community. The club is centered around preventing sexual violence and developing healthier relationships.

“I think the dance went amazingly.” said Conversation advisor and health teacher Lucy Schmid. “There are students from every grade in the club and I think that brought students from every grade to the dance, which was what made it so fun.”

The dance offers students an opportunity to get together in a safe place. Students got dressed up and hung out with their friends, singing and dancing to songs picked by students and played by student DJ’s.

“I thought the music was really good, and everyone knew all of the songs which was fun. Everybody seemed to enjoy the music,” said Hazel Nava, a freshman at Montpelier High School.

MHS students will have another opportunity to get together at the Spring Fling in March where schools around central Vermont will be joining in on the festivities.
