The fall sports season is well underway at Montpelier High School.

The girl’s varsity soccer team started their season off well. However, the injury of one of their prominent players has set them back. After losing to Harwood 2-0, their ranking dropped, and their record is now 5-7-1. However, one teammate, when interviewed, said that she remained “optimistic” about their chances in the playoffs. This is due largely to their coach, Jamie Connor.

“JK has helped me so much!” said a member of the girl’s soccer team. Another team member agreed. “She encourages new people to play, and she supports and encourages the whole team.”

The boys volleyball team has had a tough season as well. They’ve struggled with injuries and haven’t won any games so far. They’ve faced Division 1 teams in almost every match, but they’ve kept up a positive attitude and tried to keep the season fun, while developing skills in the sport.

“We have big shoes to fill in coming years, our goal is to continue to show the students that this is a fun, competitive and inclusive sport.” Cam Mack, the Boys Volleyball coach told a reporter, when talking about the team. “It's only a matter of time before we are competing with the best programs in the state; we all have to start somewhere.”

The MHS boys varsity soccer team has had a strong season so far. Their record is 10-2-1 this year. They only have one regular season game left until the playoff, in which they hope to carry the team’s enthusiasm and momentum.

“This group has worked hard all season to play an exciting style of soccer. They’ve really embraced the idea of competing for each other and representing the school with pride, and we’re looking forward to carrying that momentum into the playoffs.” said Eric Bagley, the coach for the boys soccer team. He also said that team members had grown a lot throughout the year, and competed with energy and composure in every match. They play next against Lamoille on Friday.

This year’s MHS cross country team has almost 30 runners, and “a lot of enthusiasm”, according to Brian Carlson, the cross country coach. Almost half of the team are freshmen. The team has won two large meets; the Harwood Invitational and NVAC Mountain Division Championship.

"I am impressed every day by the dedication of everyone on this team who puts in the miles of running required to keep improving at this sport!" the coach added.

The field hockey team has won most recently 3-2 against Stowe and 3-0 against Missisquoi Valley. Their last regular season home game is on Friday, against Middlebury, and they’re heading into that game with a 12 game winning streak overall.

“We’ve had a great season so far!” said MHS field hockey coach Morgan Griffith.

“I'm really proud of how this team has shown from the beginning the importance of hard work and continuous improvement.” Griffith said. “We try to bring the skills and strategy that we practice into every game and have found success when we play together with our heads and our hearts.”

Overall, the MHS teams have performed well.
